History of Maharashtra
Maharashtra state is located in which is situated in the western part of the country. Maharashtra was established on 1st May 1960. Maharashtra was earlier known as Bombay. there have been Some historical events in Maharashtra which is immortal in the pages of history. some such events are mentioned below which were important event in the history of Maharashtra: –
- Before 1000 BC farming was done in Maharashtra but after some time in farming was stop due to sudden changes in weather. but now the tradition of farming is back in Maharashtra state many people do farming in the village.
- The city of Bombay emerged as an important town around 500 AD.
- The satvahan rules rule from 232 to 225 AD.
- In the year 1653, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” established the “Maratha empire”
- In 1857 the Maharashtra state was formed under British rule
- In the year of 1960 Bombay state was divided to form two States name Maharashtra and Gujarat

- Maharashtra folk music is also very famous Gondal, Lavni, Bharud, Abhang, powada are very famous types of music. this type of music is seen in many parts of Maharashtra.
- The food culture in Maharashtra is different according to the changing regions. fish and rice are popular in Konkan whereas wheat, barley and millet are more prevalent in eastern Maharashtra. all kinds of pulses, onion, potato, tomato, chilies, garlic, parsley, etc. are used a lot in food.
- The main dress of Maharashtra is Navari saree for women and dhotar/ pajama and Sadara for men. this dress is mostly seen in rural areas, in cities people wear modern clothes.
- Mumbai the capital of Maharashtra state has seacoast so people of the Koli caste leave mostly there. they are the oldest residence of Mumbai. this people do fish in the sea this is their main occupation
- Other national games like cricket are also popular in Maharashtra and games like Kabaddi, vitti dandu, pakada pakadi are also popular here.
- Diwali, Rang Panchami, Gokul Ashtami, Ganeshostav, Holi, Shiv Jyanti, Vat Purnima, Makar sankranti, Dussehra are the main festivals celebrated in Maharashtra. Ganeshostav is the biggest and most popular festival celebrated in Maharashtra.
