Karnataka State
There are many states in India, Karnataka is a one of them. this is the state of the southern part of India. Karnataka state was formed on 1st November 1956 as Mysore and later in 1973 it was named “Karnataka”. Karnataka state is the 6th largest state of India and there are 31 districts under this state.
The state of Karnataka is bordered by the Arabian sea on the west, Goa on the Northwest, Maharashtra on the north, Telangana on the Northeast, Andhra Pradesh on the east, Tamil Nadu on the southeast, and Kerala on the south. it is the only state which shares its border with four other South Indian states. The total area of the state is 74,122 square miles. Kannada is the most widely spoken language here. Vijayanagar is the newest district of the Karnataka state.
The word Karnataka has many stories about its origin. The word comes from Kannada word karu meaning Black or high and Nadu meaning land or region. the combination of this gives Karunadu or pura meaning black land or high region.
History of Karnataka
- The state of Karnataka has a vast history and has been many eras of development.
- The prehistory of the state of Karnataka goes back to the stone age. it contains evidence from the Mesolithic and Neolithic ages. gold discovered at Harappa and evidence from mines in Karnataka have led historians to trace the connection between Karnataka and the Indus valley civilization as early as 3000 BCE.
- From the third century BCE, most of the state of Karnataka was under the rule of the Nalanda dynasty before it come under the rule of Emperor Ashoka of the Maurya dynasty. The Satavahana dynasty enjoy four centuries of rule during which they rule over large parts of Karnataka.
- Kadamba and western Ganga Dynasty with the fall of satvahana rule, the local rulers Kadamba and western Ganga Dynasty rose. the huge statue of Gomateshwar and Shravanbelagola was built by Ganga Dynasty minister chamundiraya, which is world famous.
- At the time of establishment of the Vijayanagar Empire, it was seen as Hindu power in the south opposing the Muslim rulers ruling Delhi and Northen India.
- They were the first instances of using the Kannada language in the state administration, as evidenced by the Halmidi inscription and 5th century copper seal found in vanvasi. This dynasty was succeeded by the royal Kannada Kingdom of the Badami Chalukya’s, the Rashtrakuta’s of Manyakheta and western chalukyas who ruled large parts of the Deccan and had their capitals in present day Karnataka.
- The Western chalukyas also developed a unique chalukyas architecture style, and also developed Kannada literature, which letter became the basis for the artistic and literally contributions of the Hoysala dynasty in the 12th century.
- Part of modern Karnataka was ruled by the chola dynasty between 990 and 1210.

- Hubli: – this city is an important city in the Northern part of Karnataka state, and it’s developed in the field of business and education.
